Laboratory of Optical and Quasioptical Investigation and Optoelectronic Devices Design for Infocommunication Systems
About Us
Infocommunication laboratoty (SRL-109) was created in 2005 as a part of the Telecommunication department from the European Union funding of Ukrainian Science and Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU ) project ¹3222 "Spatial anisotropy complete 3D-analysis in geometry optimizations of electro-, piezo- and acousto-optic interactions (new computer aided design of highly efficient optical modulators and deflectors)”" (2005-2007 , project manager Andrushchak A.S.) and was further developed form the funds of the following two projects: project STCU ¹4584 " Development of most efficient acoustooptic cell creation methodology for super-high-frequency control of powerful laser radiation "(2008 - 2010) and funded by Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ukrainian- Polish project number ¹Ì/138-2009 (2009-2010 ).
Based on the above mentioned projects in the SRL-109 laboratory the experimental equipment for optical and quasioptical applied research was created, namely:
- equipment for mechanical cutting and optical processing of required crystalline samples to determine their mass, density and signs of crystal physical coordinate system based on the piezoelectric method;
- technological setup for quality and geometry control of samples processing from crystalline materials by means of conoscopic and interferometric methods;
- automated optical and quasi-optical setups and special software for measuring the refractive indices of plane-parallel samples of isotropic and anisotropic materials in the visible and mm-cm wavelengths;
- acoustic setup for measuring the velocity of longitudinal and transverse sound waves in anisotropic crystals of different symmetry classes using dynamic echo- pulse method with subsequent calculation of piezoelectric and elastic coefficients;
- interferometric (based on a Michelson interferometer) and polarization- optical setup and developed own methodology to determine all tensor components for electro-optical effect in crystalline materials of arbitrary symmetry class;
- interferometric (based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer) and polarization- optical setups and developed own methodology to determine all the components of the tensors of elastic and piezo- optic effect in crystalline materials of all classes of symmetry;
- acousto-optical setup for measuring the quality of acousto-optical crystal materials using Dixon-Cohen method;
- pesonal computers and existing specific software for automation of the measurements and to perform all necessary calculations.
On available in the laboratory equipment all necessary basic and applied research for piezo- , elastic- , electro -and acousto -optic effects in crystalline materials of all classes of symmetry can be made for more efficient use of these materials as working elements of corresponding devices for control or transformation of laser radiation.
The laboratory team members has a proven track records on this topic: more than 170 scientific and technical papers and 13 patents , 1 Doctor of Science (thesis defended in 2009) and 3 PhD (2005, 2010 and 2013 years of defense), has published over 70 abstracts at national and international conferences and symposia. Also, a textbook approved by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Ukraine was published (letter of 22.07.2011 ¹ 1/11-6547 est.): Applied Electrodynamics of Information Systems: a textbook / A.S. Scientific research that can be performed in the laboratory corresponds to the scientific directions of the Telecommunication Department and embedded in the fundamental basic themes of Lviv Polytechnic National University.
Current Project in the SRL- 109 Laboratory
The grant agreement ¹910715 between Lviv Polytechnic National University and Research Executive Agency FP7 of European Union project "Development of new technology and the most effective use of stable electro-optical and nonlinear optical crystal materials " was signed (project coordinator Andrushchak A.S.).
